Get Ready for the ASH BASH 2007!

It’s time to get ready for the 2007 Airsoft Hawaii/Arms Magazine ASH BASH Presented by RedWolf Airsoft. This is the most internationally known airsoft game in the world. With 500 people expected to play all day you’ll need to be ready so here’s some advice on what you’ll need for the ASH BASH.

1. Water, lots and lots of water. Playing all day under the hot Hawaiian sun can cause overheating, heatstroke, and dehydration. And with 80% humidity your body’s natural reaction to sweat won’t help to cool you off. A Camelbak or similar water pack would be a good investment. Many of our sponsors sell them for reasonable prices. Kualoa Ranch will have a food and drink booth again this year and if you do feel sick the American Red Cross will be on hand to give assistance.

2. The right clothes. Most players will play in traditional BDU’s, but because of the heat I would also suggest a t-shirt to play in. You might also want to bring extra clothes to change to for the trip home, just in case you decide to dive in the mud.

3. The right shoes. Something with good ankle support, good traction, and comfort. Many players wear military boots, which offer great ankle support but can be heavy and uncomfortable (especially those horrible Bates boots, I threw mine away after 1 week). Many veteran players opt for athletic cleats such as football shoes. I use Under Armour Lacrosse cleats which are the lightest, coolest, most comfortable shoes I’ve ever played in. I just can’t get them wet because water goes through them like it was made of Kleenex. I will probably bring my Reebok football shoes in case it rains again.

4. DON’T FORGET YOUR MASK! It’s amazing how many people forget their mask at home. For the ASH BASH you’ll need a full paintball mask with full face and ear protection. Mesh goggles are not allowed. Paintball goggles with holes drilled in the lens are also not allowed. If you have any scratches on your lens, or you’ve had it for more than a year, change your lens. Click here to read a Ballistic Article about the failing points of different masks and goggles.

5. Make sure all of your guns chronograph under the ASH BASH limits (400fps with 0.20g for gas, electric, and shotguns, 450fps for spring powered bolt action rifles). If you plan on upgrading I’d suggest shoot for 385fps because each chrono is slightly different and chronoing indoors and outdoors can give slightly different readings. To be fair to everyone the chronographs on the field are the final say, it doesn’t matter what a different chronograph at a store or a different field said. Everyone is being measured by the same chronographs and the limits apply to everyone.

6. Have your guns ready. Have your batteries in your gun ready to chronograph. The sooner you check in and chronograph the sooner you can play. Make sure everything is charged. Have fresh batteries in your sights, radios, and any other accessories. Extra batteries would also be a good idea.

7. Load up. Thinking about buying that extra magazine or grenade? I’d suggest doing it. When there’s over 200 players on the other side you’ll need as much ammo as you can carry. Have your hi-cap mags loaded up before you come so you only need to wind them before you play.

8. Got a sidearm? Lets be honest, with the amount players shoot at the ASH BASH there is a good chance of a battery dying or even a gun breaking. If that happens in a game you’ll need a back-up. I would suggest the Tokyo Marui AEP’s because they might not hit hard but you get great range, full-auto, and you can use 100rd mags.

A pistol would also be good to bring so you can enter one of the target shooting competitions. Hey you might win a prize!

9. Gotta look good. Want to be in ARMS or NAM Magazine? Nothing attracts attention more than costumes and custom guns. Accessories and conversion kits from PDI, Mad Bull, and Guarder are a good way to have your gun to stand out from the crowd.

And don’t forget to have your costumes ready. Remember, if you play in costume for the majority of the day you will get an extra raffle ticket for prizes. Check out Lisa’s tips on costumes for some helpful hints.

10. If you need your local shop to do work on your gun you better get it done early. You’re not the only one having work done and techs need time to go through all the orders. It’s not even July yet and here at Impact Games we have a dozen ASH BASH specific upgrades on order right now. Asking for a custom gun to be built the Friday before the ASH BASH will mean you won’t get your gun finished until after the ASH BASH.

It would also be a good choice to sight in your scopes and adjust your hop-up before the ASH BASH. When it’s time to play you should be ready to just jump into the action.

Have fun at the ASH BASH!
