Boss Geirira
By Grant Woo

Who is the man behind the mask?

His name is Boss Geirira, and he’s the head of Team Geirirarira (easiest way to say it is like La-Dee-Da-Dee-Da, except start with “Ge” as in “get”), they represent Arms Magazine, Japan’s number one airsoft publication.

Boss is sent out into the world in search of the newest, biggest, or most innovative airsoft products and events. Readers of Arms will often see him and his team playing at different fields and arenas, often as special guest for the best events. Boss also goes on quests visiting custom airsoft shops (such as Echigoya in Tokyo and Impact Games in Hawaii) and his team will scrimmage against each other using custom guns from such shops.

Boss developed his character and started his team to express the fun and safe aspects of playing airsoft. He is concerned about the misuse of airsoft guns and will lobby in Japan if there are ever problems such as vandalism by people with airsoft guns. Many times new laws came up in response to misused airsoft guns and Boss was always in the front to educate the lawmakers and the public. Boss is now working with Airsoft Hawaii and the ASH BASH to promote airsoft outside of Japan.

His favorite guns are the AK-47 and the Hi-Capa, both by Tokyo Marui. He is often seen with variants of these guns, such as an RPK or AK-74U, although he has been known to use M4’s, M14’s, and even a MG-42. His uniform is simply blue jeans, knee-pads, motorcycle gloves, a duty belt with an assortment of Blackhawk, Eagle and Safariland gear, his Gerirarira t-shirt and his trademark Boss mask. Although rare you may see him in camo. He even has a mask in camo.

When playing in Japan he usually wears just his mask and goggles. However, almost all of the airsoft games in Japan are regulated to 0.89J, not much higher than stock velocity for most Marui rifles. Boss was concerned about playing with high velocities in the US so Impact Games fabricated a custom JT facemask bearing trademark mask.

Boss loves customized guns, but not the typical gears/spring/bushings type of customizing. He loves to get the most performance out of stock parts. Often he will write articles in Arms about how to get faster full auto from your stock gears, more range from a stock hop-up bucking, more consistent stroke volume with a stock piston. He also loves using real gun parts and unique one-of-a-kind parts. His favorite airsoft tech in the US is Blake Abe from Airsoft Hawaii because Blake custom makes a lot of his own parts. If you have a M4 with grenade launcher, laser, scope, box mag, etc, he’s seen it before, but if you mill out your own rail foregrip from a solid block of aluminum then there’s a good chance he’ll put you in Arms Magazine.

Boss is very health conscious. He eats a lot of fruits and drinks tea; he doesn’t like coffee. He rarely drinks alcohol. (Trust me I’ve tried to take him out drinking many times.) Maybe that’s why he’s good at airsoft.

Other than airsoft Boss loves motorcycles and American Rock n’ roll. He writes for a Japanese motorcycle publication called Mr. Bike. He loves Hawaii, but the big boss doesn’t let them spend enough time in Hawaii.

Boss loves airsoft. He works very hard at what he does. He is my friend. I look forward to meeting Boss again.
