ASH BASH
By Grant Woo

What’s so great about the ASH BASH…..

The ASH BASH has quickly become one of the largest and most recognizable airsoft events in the world. No other event has as many sponsors and gives away as many prizes as the ASH BASH. Past sponsors included Tokyo Marui, PDI, Western Arms, RedWolf, Echigoya, Intruder Shop, The Q Project, AEX, and many more. The ASH BASH was also the first event outside of Japan to be featured in ARMS Magazine.

“I heard about this game in Hawaii that everyone was talking about (ASH BASH) and when I looked it up I realized that we need to be a part of this.” That was something Paul Chu told me the first time I met him in person. Paul is the director/co-owner of RedWolf Airsoft, the largest airsoft distributor based in Hong Kong. “You know you got something good when everyone in a different country is talking about it.” Paul and RedWolf Airsoft have been top level sponsors since 2004 and have taken on the lead to present this years California ASH BASH. Thank you Paul.

So why has Airsoft Hawaii decided to take the ASH BASH to California? We want to spread the ASH BASH so that everyone can be a part of it. In a few years we may have ASH BASH Japan, ASH BASH Hong Kong, ASH BASH East Coast, and ASH BASH Europe. But first we have California.

So again, why California? Well California has the highest concentration of airsoft players and businesses in the continental USA. Many of our past ASH BASH sponsors are based in California (AEX, Airsplat, BFX/Excel, NAM, The Q Project, and TeamSD/ICS, this alone would make a good event sponsor list). This year Combat Enterprises, GamePod, and JAG Precision also join the list of California based sponsors. The California ASH BASH is a way to give back to those sponsors, but also to give their customers a piece of the action.

Why should California players attend the ASH BASH? Well first of all this will be one of the biggest games in California. Players from all over the west coast are already planning on attending. Additionally there will be special guests from the different airsoft companies. These special guests will offer more than just a photo and an autograph. ASH BASH guests will be key figures in the airsoft industry. Players will be able to see the newest products and learn the best techniques to tune your guns. I know you want to know who will be there, just keep checking the ASH BASH California section for updates. In addition to the guests will be the prizes. I’ve seen some of the prizes and they are amazing. Thousands of dollars worth in custom guns from the best gunsmiths in Japan, Hong Kong and Hawaii will be given away. Considering the number of prizes lined up, you got better odds at ASH BASH than Las Vegas.

Does all this mean there’s no ASH BASH in Hawaii? Yes and no. True the actual “ASH BASH” will be located in California and not Hawaii. But that doesn’t mean nothing is happening in Airsoft Hawaii’s hometown. Rather than having one large event in Hawaii we have planned three different events to lead up to the ASH BASH. The first was Spring Tension.

The next game is Breakdown. This event will be on May 20. Breakdown is the first large scale scenario mil-sim game ever done in Hawaii. Players can sign up to be warlords, arms dealers, mercenaries, insurgents, rangers, or villagers. Each has it’s own requirements and limitations concerning outfits, gun and mag type, and recycles or extra lives. This will be an all day event and I’m anticipating that like real wars there’s no total, clear-cut winners. Instead we will be keeping records of how many hostages were taken, how many mercenaries were bought out, suicide bomb tolls, and more. Then it’s up to debate who actually won. Following Breakdown will be BB-Mania. This will be on July 8th and will be considered the big game of the year for Hawaii. After the ASH BASH there will be another large event in October. Check back for more updates on all the events planned.

Well, I hope this helped shed some light on the Airsoft Hawaii events planned. And if there is something to really look forward to, wait till you see what’s in store for the 2007 ASH BASH. That will be the celebration for a milestone in airsoft in the US. 2007 will be the celebration of Airsoft Hawaii’s 20th anniversary, and we will be the first airsoft organization in the US to ever hit 20.

See you at the next game.
