X-Fire SPR II Spring
By Shane Silva |
The X-Fire SPR II bolt-action springs currently being tested against other
brands have been quite interesting to say the least. With all the bolts that were
tested doing a full write up, but because of space and time considerations, I'll
just summarize the results of the SPR-II springs and why I think they're an
ideal choice!!

Testing and Results
Being the person that I am I needed to order all the parts from Japan, which
saves me the hassle of having to wait for someone to bring it in! So I went
ahead and bought 4 types of springs. The SPR-II springs that I’m using come in
all sorts of power types - 0.9 joule, 1 joule, 1.2 joules, etc. ASH has a 450fps
cap on all bolt action rifles so, finding the right set up is a must. By
choosing one out of the four springs (the 1.4 joule) I’ve put my gun at or
around the field limit. Thinking the 1.99 joules spring I initially bought for
the gun was supposed to bring my gun to 450fps turned out to be a big error. The
actual result was up around 525-530fps! Choosing a spring from X-Fire should be
done with caution because they shoot a lot stronger than other brands. You
should pick one that is lower powered than what you think you need.

The best part of using X-Fire springs is that no matter how high the fps, the
pull of the bolt is still relatively soft. Its Linear design helps the pull and
still maintains its strength. Also, a softer pull relieves some of the stress on
the handle boss which in turn will give it a longer life span. Shot consistency
is also a really big factor when using a bolt-action rifle. The idea is to have
it shoot with little to no change in velocity from shot to shot. This improves
the shooter’s accuracy.
Overall, I hope this review will give the readers out there a different
perspective on how a spring can make a really big difference on your bolt-action
rifle. I recommend using X-Fire springs to give your bolt-action rifle better
reliability, performance, and to prolong its life. If you would like to pick up
the spring described in this article or other springs that X-Fire has to offer,
please come by and see the guys over at Impact Games!
Note from Tyler
In regards to high power upgrades for bolt-action guns, I have to agree. I'm
currently experimenting with a SPR II 1.99J spring in a modified VSR. Velocities
have consistently exceeded any spring from Laylax, with the bonus of a very soft
bolt pull. I'm still using a sp150 PSS10 spring in my G-Spec for ASH games.
Although SPR II springs are a little confusing in their power output labels,
they do deserve a closer look. You can find a wide selection of Bolt -action
parts for both the VSR and APS, as well as gun tuning from Impact Games.
