Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 Government Model
By Shota Nakayama

Name: Hi-Capa 5.1 Government Model
Length: 222mm
Height: 158mm
Width: 40mm
Barrel Length: 112mm
Magazine Capacity: 31 + 1 BBs
Round: 6mm BB

The Hi-Capa 5.1 is the latest gas blow back pistol from Tokyo Marui. It is modeled after the popular .45 caliber government pistol series. It is currently one of the most popular pistols in Japan and many Japanese players are purchasing it for a sidearm. However, not many of the U.S. Airsoft players own or know about this new pistol. My friend at Tokyo Marui commented that one reason could be that the grip of the pistol is a Tokyo Marui original design and it is meant to fit smaller people’s hands. He also mentioned that the pistol is so popular in Japan that it is constantly selling out.

I would like to say thank you to Boss Gerira at Burst-Head for sending me this pistol and allowing me to write a review on it.

Magazine:
One of the best features of this pistol is the high capacity magazine. It can hold 31 BBs in the magazine and one in the chamber, which gives the total capacity of 32 BBs. Berettas usually hold about 26 BBs, but the 6 extra BBs you get to hold in this mag may make a big difference in your game. Although the magazine is big, it only weighs 336 grams, which is 14 grams less than Infinity magazines.

Also, Hi-Capa magazines are unique in that the player can insert the BBs from the bottom instead of the top. Now a player can “pour” the BBs in the magazine rather than pushing in one BB at a time. This makes the loading process faster and easier for most people.

Mechanism/Usability:
The slide and the body are made from plastic, but it still has a weight of 894g. This amount of weight is perfect for players who enjoy the authentic feel and weight of a gun and it is not too heavy or big to carry around as a sidearm. The Hi-Capa is a gas blow-back pistol (GBB), which means that the slide moves after each shot just like the real thing. With green gas, the blow-back has a very nice “punch” to it.

There are a couple of problems with the Hi-Capa. One problem that players will encounter is that the O-ring on the piston pops off after several uses. The O-ring shown on the photo is what may give you problems. Another thing that I don’t like is that the gun was not made to handle HFC-22 gas or “green gas”. Since it was originally constructed to use HFC134A gas, it is mechanically more fragile than other pistols.

However, thanks to Ernie Tsui at E-powersports, this problem can be easily fixed. Ernie replaced the original piston head with a cup seal made for a Glock 26. The one he used was Guarder’s Glock 26 Piston Lid for Marui. The upgrade took less than a minute after it was disassembled. Just spending several more dollars on a piston lid, allows the pistol to be durable enough to use green gas! Please go down to E-powersports to get your Hi-Capa upgraded!

Another option that was mentioned by Tyler Woo at Impact Games LLC is to purchase extra O-rings. When the O-ring wears out, you can simply take it off the piston and put a new one on. When shopping for O-rings, I recommend taking off the O-ring and showing it to any store that sells O-rings. Be sure to ask for metric sized O-rings. Do not take the pistol to the store!

An alternative method you can try to upgrade your Hi-Capa was suggested by an employee at Power Edge. His suggestion was to simply super glue the original O-ring to the piston. By doing so, the O-ring will not pop off from the piston. I have never tried this technique, but it may be a simple and a very cheap way to fix the pistol. However, keep in mind that you are screwed if the O-ring was to wear out and it is permanently stuck to the piston.

Accuracy:
The accuracy of this pistol is amazing. In the December issue of Arms Magazine, it showed that the grouping of the Hi-Capa pistol from 20 meters was only 102mm! The grouping at 8 meters was only 35mm! The Hi-Capa tested at Arms Magazine exceeds most of the high-end pistols on the market today. I was personally shocked when I field tested this gun. I loaded the pistol and I took aim at a branch approximately 100 feet away. I was able to hit the same branch consistently a number of times! About 3 out of 5 shots landed in the exact same place with 0.2 gram BBs. Other pistols I own needed several shots to even get close to the same branch 100 feet away.

General Summary:
This pistol is definitely worth its money. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to buy, but it works just as good as high-end models. The accuracy and the holding capacity of the pistol make it far superior than others out in the market. The durability is the only flaw, but it is easily fixed. This pistol is definitely recommended for those who love the mobility of a pistol, great accuracy, high cap mags, and who do not want to spend a fortune.
